Hello everyone, welcome to News at Team Interns Jamaica™ (TIJ). I am your host, Monique Williams. You can call me Nique™. Today, we will hit the headlines as it relates to Covid-19. The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is recognized as an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. The Coronavirus outbreak was originated in Wuhan, China, in the food market area. International air travel has enabled rapid spread of the virus, person to person, from China to every corner of the globe. Government begins to issue travel restriction and even quarantines. There are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. Today, we have with us Dr. Pandemic™ to share with us a bit about Covid-19.

Dr. Pandemic™: It is my pleasure to be here Nique. As it relates to Covid-19, most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness. Some will recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, in particular, and those with underlying medical problems, like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

TIJ NEWS: Okay, thank you for that. What are some symptoms of coronavirus Dr. Pandemic?

Dr. Pandemic™: some of the symptoms are cough, fever, shortness of breath, muscle aches, sore throat, unexplained loss of taste or smell, diarrhea and headache. I also wish to advise anyone who are experiencing these symptoms to go to the nearest health care center to be tested immediately. Avoid contact with people.

TIJ NEWS: Thank you, Dr. Pandemic, how can coronavirus spread?

Dr. Pandemic: Coronavirus spreads through droplets released into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The droplets generally do not travel more than a few feet, and they fall to the ground in a few seconds. That is why social and physical distancing is effective in preventing the spread.

TIJ NEWS: Thank you. Lastly, can you please tell us how to reduce our exposure to this virus?

Dr. Pandemic™: Sure. Well, let me first emphasize on practicing good hygiene. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub. Try to wash your hands in warm water. Always cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze. The most important one is to avoid close contact with people who are unwell. Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell. Don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth during this period.

TIJ NEWS: Dr. Pandemic™, thank you so much for sharing such informative information with us. I enjoyed our conversation. Let’s do this again in the near future. Goodbye for now.

Dr. Pandemic: My Pleasure. See you soon Nique™.

TIJ NEWS: Once again, I am Monique Williams (Nique™). Our second guest is Shrine Flight™ to share with us how the coronavirus affects the travel services industry.

Shrine Flight ™: Thank you for having me Nique™. Firstly, let me state that the travel services industry consists of companies whose primary goal is to market travel services by providing bookings and arranging travel tours and accommodations to general and commercial clients.
As it relates to the Covid19, this virus has adversely impacted the travel services industry. Thus, we have completely shut down all services. Every sector in the industry has been negatively affected by the coronavirus, including the air travel industry, cruise industry, airlines, tourism destination and even online travel agencies have been hit by the coronavirus.

TIJ NEWS: Do you know how long it will take for the industry to get back on track and how the virus affects the cruise and tourism industry?

Shrine Flight™: No one can say for sure. It is fair to say that it will take a while to recover fully. As it relates to the cruise industry, we are seeing where the cruise industry is managing to hold the line on pricing, at least for now. One thing about the tourism industry is that it is built entirely around discretionary goods. That is, most people do not have to travel unless they choose to.

TIJ News: Thank you so much for that Shrine Flight™

Shrine Flight™. Thank you for having me Nique™. It was a pleasure. I am looking forward to our next episode.

Thanks for watching TIJ New; stay tune.
